RE: HVOF Powder
Hi HMB,
Generally all powder manufactures specifies powder range as -X/+Y microns mode only. It means Maximum volume & weight of the powder range is less than X microns and more than Y microns.... Generally it is -45/+15, -45/+22, -45/+5 microns.
Powder particle size plays very important role in the coating characteristics because each particle has to get optimum heat and velocity to give good coating, hence, mass of the powder particle will be controlled through particle size.
IF particle size more than specified because of more mass, it may not able to reach required velocity and leads to poor bonding in the coating, called as loose particles and if the particle size is very low than specified because of less mass , then it will fly off as a dust and difficult to deposit the same in coating and chances are there to happen unwanted reactions such a oxidation, decomposition, poor deposition efficiency...
Hence, it is better to use specified range of powders suitable for HVOF systems...
