coating guns on inner wall of small parts
Hello Everyone!
Herein I have one questions need your guys help.
Currently we're develop APS and HVOF on the inner wall of some cylindric or cone productions coating.
Because that the parts are too small to use the normal plasma spray and hvof spray gun,
(For Plasma spraying on inner wall, the ID is appr. 120mm)
(For HVOF coating on cone inner wall, the largest ID is appr. 90mm, Length=90mm appr.)
Does anyone know if there are smaller APS and HVOF guns(Better Sulzer Metco gun) which can suitable for the parts for robotic coating?
Or are there any other method to perform coating on those small parts?

Thanks.

Amanda

RE: coating guns on inner wall of small parts
for the HVOF you can try Kermetico

Kermetico HVAF and HVOF ID guns are reliable for ID 80 mm and larger

regards

Stephen

There are several APS gun you can use, such as SG-100 extension, Sulzer Metco's F1, F210, F300. It is depends on what kind material you want to spray.

Hi, Derek,
Thanks alot, for APS gun, I can only chose SM gun with 9MC system, thus could you plz help to introduce some other guns for the small ID APS?

thanks!

Hi Amanda

The only one APS torch for ID diameters below 50 mm, till now produced and which works well, is MINI ID APS GUN, this gun operate up to 15 KW, it spray with an angle of about 45°, the minimum ID diameter that could be coated is about 38 mm, and can be updated to all APS systems
Best regards
Luigi

Hi loriolo

Are these guns able to spray zirconium axide powder? I have 3MB system.

We use such torches to apply YSZ in porous and DVC coatings.

RE: coating guns on inner wall of small parts
HANG ON- regarding the Swiss guns on 9MC, be VERY careful or you will be going through a lot of hardware (best case) or replacing many guns (worst case).

The 11MB is probably the safest choice for the 9MC console, HOWEVER, the spark gap must be reduced in the 9MCD to accommodate this, or you'll be chewing that hardware up too. A former employer is sole source for an ID repair with an HVOF-quality ID coating at roughly the same ID, using the 11MB with two gasses.

That said, it is POSSIBLE to run the Swiss guns on the 9MC, unofficially- I have done it myself. The F210 is what I would suggest for the larger bore (F300 is only slightly smaller, and parts are more fragile and more costly). The 90mm bore MIGHT be possible (perhaps using the 40-degree head, or a custom-angle head), but in order to get the HVOF structures, you will need to run tertiary gas (Helium is the easy, though costly, answer) to improve enthalpy and particle velocity through increased gas viscosity.

With all these small ID guns, be sure to blow all the cooling water out of them when you dismount them for storage. Any sort of buildup (calcification for example) significantly reduces cooling flow, and storing them "wet" to dry on their own, can close down the passages, and cause gun loss.
